Fulbright Visiting Scholar
Mr Hawar Fazil Esmael, assistant lecturer and director of
career development center at Charmo University has been awarded with Fulbright
Visiting Scholars Program (VSP) for 2019. This grant is offered by U.S.
Department of State, Bureau of the Education and Cultural Affairs and it allows
Iraqi junior faculties to participate in a structured 10 weeks program in a
selected American institution. The program aims to develop the skills of Iraqi
faculty members in research and teaching methods via mentoring, class
participation, workshops, seminars and meeting. Meanwhile, the scholars will be
also given a chance to take a part in many cultural, volunteering events in
order to understand many aspects America life. As Mr Hawar has a geological
background and this program is discipline based cohort, he was selected with
six other Iraqi scholars of different science background to carry out the
program in University of Central Oklahoma which is located in Edmond city,
Oklahoma State. The program runs in the summer and starts on 30th
June 2019 and ends on 8th September 2019. |
Internship Training Program-Erbil 19,20 and 21 February 2019
CDC director has taken a part in a 3 days training course in Erbil. The training program has been developed by IREX with input from Michigan State University as part of the U.S. Iraq Higher Education Partnership Program, specifically under the workforce development initiative to improve and expand upon experiential learning activities, and improve employability for students. The training will take a place in February 19-21,2019 at Erbil International Hotel in Erbil City.           |
Life After Graduation/ Dr Bakhtiar Talabani 23 January 2019
Career development center has organized a seminar for Dr Bakhtiar Talabni, lecturer at polytechnic university of Sulaimani. He is well-known in this for his work in human capacity development. During the seminar he encouraged the students to prepare for the life after graduation. He enriched his seminar with many real life examples of people who overcome their fears of failure and became entrepreneur. The seminar was attended by a vast number of students an academic staff.     |
Workforce Development Conference-Baghdad 12,13 December 2018
CDC director has participated in the workforce development conference. It was an initiative of the US-Iraq Higher Education Partnership Program sponsored by the US Embassy/Baghdad and implemented by IREX in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, industry sponsors and partners, and university partners. The conference was a good opportunity to bring industry, government, university leaders and youth together to discuss and chart concrete strategies for workforce development in Iraq.         |
A visit to Lafarge cement company
The Director of career development center, vice president of the Charmo university for administrative affair and dean of the college of medical and applied science were welcomed by Lafarge cement company on 27 November 2018. The purposes of this visit was to discuss the possible collaboration between Charmo university and industry. Both Lafarge and Charmo university emphasized the importance of such a collaboration and agreed to work together in future.       |
How to become a successful teacher
Career development center invited Mr Faiaq Saeed to present a seminar on the modern teaching methods on 6 November 2018. Mr Faiaq is a teacher,researcher and trainer in education and he has written 14 books in a aforementioned field since 2003. The seminar was attended by a huge number of students and lecturers from college of education and language.      |
Entrepreneurial Mindset webinar
As a part of the activities that take place in November 12-18th which is Global Entrepreneurship Week, over 30 students from Charmo university have participated in a webinar on 14 November 2018, titled Activating the Entrepreneurship Mindset Nick Chagin from 3Daystartup locaten in Austin, Texas. This webinar was orgnized by IREX for the CDCs across Iraq.  |
Accounting skills (seminar)
Career development center has organized a seminar about the skills of a professional accouter for Mr Saman Abdulla, founder and owner of the Amin consultancy for accounting on 28 October, 2018. A large group of the students from accounting department and department of public administration attended the seminar, it ends with an open discussion between the audiences and Mr Saman Abdulla.        |
Train the trainer TOT
CDC director participated in a TOT course in Lebanon from 8th to 10 July, 2018. The course was run by the Spearhead training institute and funded by ministry of higher education and scientific research-Kurdistan regional government. TOT course (Training of Trainers) provides you with strategies and resources needed to conduct effective training sessions with high confidence. The course also teaches you the techniques and skills that will enable you to deliver persuasive and productive and powerful presentations.      |
Job or career
On 21 October 2018, in respond to the CDC's invitation, Mr Julius Metuge, country director of the N2N organization presented a seminar on the (job or career). The main goals of the seminar was to let the attendants figure out the differences and similarity between the carrier and job. The seminar followed by a deep discussion between the attendants and the presenter.         |
